We often hear patients ask, “Do I have to have x-rays”, especially if they aren’t experiencing any pain. The answer is “yes”, because x-rays help Dr. Upton detect and treat dental problems early on, which can save you money, unnecessary discomfort and possibly your life.
3 Things They Reveal:
• An Abscess: X-rays can reveal an abscess (an infection) brewing at the base of the tooth. The sooner an abscess is found, the better chances we have to treat it before it causes swelling and pain. If left undetected, abscesses can suddenly create severe swelling that may obstruct airway passages or drain vile liquids into the blood system and cause illness.
• Irregular Bone Loss: X-rays show where your current bone level is compared to your previous routine visits. With this comparison, Dr. Upton can detect any irregular changes or abnormalities that alert us to potential gum disease. Gum disease is known to attack the bone and eventually leads to tooth loss if left untreated.
• Decay: X-rays can detect decay hidden beneath current fillings or in between the teeth. Early discovery of decay allows more conservative solutions. Otherwise, decay would eventually lead to a fractured tooth or infection in the nerve which is painful and costly.
These are only a few of the reasons why x-rays are absolutely crucial every year. They may seem like a nuisance, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. Contact our office today at (623) 878-6333 to schedule your routine check-up today!
